Profile
The All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF) established an Iaido Division in 1956. The Setei Gata curriculum of seven kata (techniques or forms) for iaido was introduced by the AJKF in 1969. The primary traditional sword styles represented by these seitei gata included Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu and Muso Shinden-ryu.
The seitei gata curriculum’s current twelve kata were added in 1980 with the addition of three more, followed by the addition of two more in 2000.
As a result of the standardization of these twelve seitei gata for iaido instruction, promotion, and dissemination, seitei iaido has grown in popularity both in Japan and throughout the rest of the world.
