The Gracie Family in Brazil created the self-defense system known as Gracie Jiu Jitsu (also known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu).
No matter the size or athleticism of the practitioner, the basic goal of Gracie Jiu Jitsu is to employ leverage and technique to defeat power and cruelty by using submission techniques instead of punches or kicks (Joint locks, chokes, dominant control positions).
